The Harris Township Planning Commission plays a major role in guiding and coordinating the total development of the community.

It has the unique job of examining the community as a whole – of evaluating its population characteristics, economy, natural resources, land uses, and transportation system … its public facilities, utilities and services … its special needs and problems, both physical and social.

Often assisted by the research and recommendations of professional planners, the Planning Commission advises the Board of supervisors concerning community goals, priorities and development policies. In addition, the Commission assists with the administration of land use controls, helps to coordinate the efforts of agencies carrying out plans, and involves the public – as well as represent the public interest – in the planning process.
